With the use the Oak Flavoring Tubes, oak management becomes very organized and simple. With the Stainless Steel Oak Flavoring Tube model, adding, removing and managing oak has never been easier! Adding or removing oak cubes is performed by removing one of the stoppers and loading the tube (approximately 2.0oz depending on type and size)
The oak products can be inter-mixed. Mix different types, one half French oak beans/cubes and the other half American oak beans/cubes. Oak beans/cubes can be mixed with chips and along with the different oak toast levels, the combinations are endless.
Instructions: – Remove the silicone stopper from the Oak Flavoring Tube. Loosely fill the tube with oak beans/cubes. Shake (up & down) the tube while loading the beans to maximize the amount of beans falling into the tube. Once loaded, replace the stopper firmly and, carefully lower the Oak Flavoring Tube into the wine vessel. Use the side of the vessel’s stopper to secure the nylon line. The bung will hold the nylon line in place. Record the type of oak material and the date inserted into the wine on the supplied tag. If you’re inserting an Oak Flavoring Tube into a vessel that is filled with wine, siphon off approximately 750 ml (a wine bottle size); insert the tube into the wine and top off the vessel.
Carboys 5 – 6 gallon (19 L/23 L) All Model Oak Flavoring Tubes: Oak beans or Cubes – 1.5 – 2.5oz. (1.0 – 1.5 oz for the 3 gallon model) Start on the lower side (1.5oz) and allow the oak to stay in the wine for at least 8 weeks. Thereafter, begin tasting the wine and if more oak is needed, re-load the tube with 1.0 ounces (oz) of fresh oak and taste more frequently.
